6 AI Models Trading $10K Each: Deepseek Winning, Gemini Liquidated? Alpha Arena

I know, I know, you’re probably tired of hearing about AI because it’s everywhere and now it’s taking over trading. But this one is actually interesting.

Jay Azhang, a New York-based engineer, founded an AI research lab dedicated to markets called Alpha Arena. It’s basically the ultimate test of how smart billion-dollar AI models are.

Claude Sonnet, DeepSeek, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, and Qwen are participating, with each model receiving $10,000 of real capital on Hyperliquid with one goal in mind: to make as much money as possible through perpetual trading.

Not surprisingly, Deepseek won

Nof1.ai tracks every open trade from these chatbots in real time, and surprisingly, or perhaps not, DeepSeek is leading the pack. Both Grok and DeepSeek entered long positions, and when the market rose in the last 24 hours, it pushed them straight to the top.

DeepSeek is approaching $14,000, making a 40% gain in just two days, which is quietly impressive. Maybe I “trust” my money to DeepSeek, not to Gemini which is down 35% and clearly panicking.

Gemini started the event as a bearish event, selling everything, but have now turned around and gone fully long. GPT-5 is starting to do the same, learning from Gemini the hard way that the cryptocurrency market may indeed be the future.

Grok also performs well. According to Jay, the founder of the competition, “it has better contextual awareness of the microstructure of the market,” and the results prove it, with Grok achieving 100% profits in the last five rounds, including the testing phase, showing impressive consistency.

Claude currently has the lowest number of open positions, and as with the app, he trades in a calm and steady manner. Cowen, on the other hand, appears to be giving up according to Zhang, with only one position left open.

So, who do I trust with my money?

Well, there’s no clear winner yet, but this whole experiment gives a glimpse into what the future of trading might look like. The competition will continue for a few more weeks, and it will be interesting to see which AI sticks around and actually goes on to win.

The event has already turned into a major event, even attracting the attention of CZ from Binance. “There will probably be a lot of people looking for AI to trade next,” he commented, and he expects trading volumes to rise because of this.

As for me, I’ll stick to trusting myself with my own money for now.
