Hamster Kombat Launches Layer-2 Network on TON Blockchain

Hamster Kombat, the popular Telegram-based click-to-earn game, has announced plans to launch a layer 2 network on the Open Network (TON).

This initiative comes on the heels of a community vote to support the creation of a dedicated blockchain to expand the utility of the Hamster Kombat Token (HMSTR).

Hamster Kombat launches its own Blockchain network

The upcoming blockchain, which is said to be called the Hamster Network, will form the foundation of the broader Hamsterverse ecosystem. The developers have confirmed that work on the network is already underway.

Over the next few weeks, the team plans to submit a detailed roadmap and implementation strategy to the DAO, with a focus on strengthening Hamster Kombat’s position in the decentralized gaming sector.

“Voting on the second proposal has ended! The DAO community has spoken: there will be a Hamster L2 blockchain built on TON! We will serve our community, the largest web3 community in the world, with the technology foundation it requested,” the project posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The Hamster Kombat community has previously supported high-profile initiatives, including events with a $1 billion prize pool for token holders. These decisions reflect the growing enthusiasm for expanding the platform and its broader ambitions in blockchain-based gaming.

Click-to-earn games are in decline

After the initial hype in the second and third quarters of this year, click-to-win games on Telegram have seen a decline in interest over the past few months. According to the latest reports, interest in such games has dropped by almost 80% between June and December 2024.

This is also evident in the on-chain TON activity. Data shows that the number of monthly active wallets has decreased by approximately 50% since October.

Hamster Kombat was widely considered a huge success in 2024. Its NFT integration plans also led to a 400% increase in NFT activity on Telegram in October.

However, after the airdrop failed, the platform saw a significant decline in the number of users and the value of the token. Within three months, its user base dropped from 300 million to 41 million, and the HMSTR token lost nearly 60% of its value.

In November, the team announced the launch of the second season of the game, which promises to revamp the gameplay. Players will gain opportunities to manage virtual gaming studios, create custom spaces, recruit team members, and conduct auditions, marking a major shift in the dynamics of the game.

However, interest in click-to-earn games continues to decline due to their lack of utility and repetitive gameplay. It will be interesting to see if users discover a renewed interest in Hamster Kombat after the launch of the new L2 network.
