EigenLayer Activates Slashing on Mainnet

The Eigenlayer, the Ethereum Restaking Protocol that pioneered the concept of “Programmable Trust,” reached a critical milestone on its roadmap with the implementation of collapse on its mainnet. The upgrade not only makes the protocol feature complete but also establishes Eigenlayer as one of the first proof-of-stake (POS) systems with live, application-specific slashing-a mechanism that economically punishes the poor performance or malignant behavior of node operators.

These features are engineered to create appropriate economic incentives for operators while maintaining the modular and composable nature of the eigenlayer ecosystem.

Operators voluntarily select slash conditions that are specific AVS in exchange for rewards, bringing a market-driven approach to the decentralized service guarantee. If they fail to meet performance thresholds, their staked collateral may be burned-a liability structure modeled after its own Ethereum skills but is applied in a multi-service context.

A new paradigm for decentralized services

Eigenlayer’s novel approach to restoration and modular security attracts high profile integrations. The Layerzero, the Omnichain Messaging Protocol, and the Decentralized Infrastructure Network (DIN) of Unfura are among the first AVSS positioned to use the collapse for stable service level implementation.
