So, it turns out that the Kansas banker (Shan Hanes) who torn millions from his bank of small cities in Kansas, has lost most of his booty for a slaughtered cryptocurrency scam, linked to a call center of the Philippines, according to a complaint from the Department of Justice (DOJ).

An exchange of cryptocurrency has provided critical information to the Doj, which brought to the regulation body that identified a complex modus operandi used by scammers to recycle illegal funds.
The authorities recovered a total of 93 storage accounts, in which the scammers forced their victims to deposit USDT. Once the victims deposited the funds, they circulated through 100 intermediate wallets to obscure the source of the funds and mix deposits from multiple victims.
Once the source of funds are obscured, the scammers then transferred these funds to Okx accounts in two storage phases. Initially they transferred the bottom to 22 OKX detention accounts and then they shuffled it between 122 additional OKX accounts.

Hans referred to both an author and a victim
According to the DOJ complaint, Hanes has subtracted millions from the Tri-State Heartland bank from 30 May to 7 July 2023, a period that falls among the bank’s quarterly reporting cycles, to avoid detection. In this period of time, Hanes started 10 -wire transfers equal to just over $ 47.1 million.
The complaint also takes into account the report of the Federal Reserve (Fed) on the collapse of the Tri-State Heartland bank. The regulatory body found a total of 434 victims of the encryption scam, with 60 victims who lose a combined value of $ 19.4 million, approximately.
Heartland Tri-State Bank, which held $ 13.7 million in capital and $ 139 million in activity, had its liquidity influenced by Hanes’ actions, which caused the bank an emergency loan for a value of $ 21 million.
As a result, the bank was left with a gigantic $ 35 million hole in its speakers and was closed by regulators in July 2023.
In addition, as previously reported by the CNN, Hanes also stole $ 40,000 from the Church of Christ of Elkhart, $ 10,000 from the Santa Fe Investment Club, $ 60,000 from the university fund of his daughter and finally, almost $ 1 million in shares from the finance company, Elkhart Financial.
In August 2024, the Court sentenced Hanes to 24 years in prison. In the meantime, the Doj has called him both the author and a victim of this particular scam for butchers of pigs.
