Due to the re-election of Donald Trump, Hunter Horsley, CEO of Bitwise Asset Management, said: “2025 is going to be really fascinating.”
In a January 6, 2025 post on X, Horsley shared his perspective on how Trump’s return as US president could indirectly fuel cryptocurrency growth.
By promoting a surge in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activity in traditional sectors, Horsley argues that the resulting market consolidation could push more individuals towards decentralized digital assets.
The Trump administration could unblock mergers and acquisitions.
Large companies – May 7, etc. – they may finally be able to manage their market capitalization. Amazon could buy Instacart. Google could buy Uber. etc etc
The big could get bigger and the center could get smaller.
If that happens, I think it will accelerate…

The Resurgence of Mergers and Acquisitions Under Trump: A Catalyst for Cryptocurrencies?
The Trump administration is expected to create a favorable environment for M&A activities.
Factors such as lower interest rates, deregulation and business-friendly policies could accelerate corporate consolidation.
According to Dealogic data, M&A activity in 2024 reached $1.4 trillion, marking an improvement from 2023 but still lagging pre-pandemic levels.
With Trump returning to power, 2025 could become a pivotal year for M&A growth.
It seems like the world is on the brink of change in 2025.
The enemy is stagnation, not change. Progress requires change.
I’m super excited about this.

Horsley imagines a scenario in which large companies, such as Amazon or Google, leverage their significant market capitalizations to acquire smaller competitors.
For example, Amazon could potentially buy Instacart or Google could acquire Uber. While this consolidation could benefit large companies, it could also crowd out mid-sized companies and further concentrate power within a few dominant players.
This trend is in line with a fundamental principle of cryptocurrency: distrust in centralized institutions.
As Horsley explains, “The conceptual premise of cryptocurrencies is to not trust large institutions to do what is in your best interest. The great enlargement accentuates this.” Essentially, the more centralized traditional markets become, the more attractive decentralized alternatives such as Bitcoin and Ethereum may appear to consumers.

“The scarcity of Bitcoin will start to become dramatic as it enters the mainstream,” he pointed out.
