Czech Minister of Justice Paville Blake resigned after a growing controversy over his ministry’s acceptance of the alleged Bitcoin donation of convicted drug dealers.
The cryptocurrency was subsequently sold by the ministry for about one billion corona (about 45 million dollars).
Although Blažek kept his innocence and stated that he was not aware of any illegal activity surrounding the donation, he resigned to avoid more reputable damage to the government. “I do not want to harm the reputation of the government, nor the ruling coalition,” to publish On x.
According to local media reports, Czech prosecutors launched an investigation into the assets Bitcoin. Although Blažek insisted on the lack of evidence that the money is illegal, reports indicate that the donation came from a criminal previously known for drug charges.
Prime Minister Peter Villa responded to the resignation by defending the intentions of Blake. While he said he believed that the minister acted in good faith, Viela also described the resignation as a “responsible” decision amid the growing general scrutiny. The resignation comes just months before the national elections, with the Viela coalition in opinion polls.
The case sparked broader discussions on transparency and organizational supervision in dealing with encryption principles by public institutions.
