FIFA has made a quiet but rather significant change on its web3 game plan. The global football body is dropping Algorand and shifts its digital collection project, FIFA Collect, up to avalanche. The move is not just a technical shuffle, reflects the changing vision of the FIFA of what fans actually want from the NFT and how to deliver them. The avalanche blockchain offers FIFA a clean list to rethink the way the fans collect, exchange and commit themselves with moments of digital football.
So what is changing?
FIFA Collect launched in 2022 ON Algorand, just in time for the World Cup in Qatar. It was a relatively fluid launch, with fans able to buy and exchange NFT cards with salient points, players and moments of the tournament. But now, Fifa is closing the door on Algorand and restarts the project with Avalanche.
Is this the greatest partnership in the history of web3?
FIFA has just announced that they are collaborating @avaxFIFA boasts a custom avalanche L1 to unify its digital strategy through collectibles, ticket office and more.

Avalanche feeds a dedicated blockchain environment, called sottorete, only for FIFA. That sottorete will act as a new home for all current and future NFT Fifa.
Why avalanche?
There is no official declaration that throws shadow to Algorand, but FIFA is clearly looking for something a little more flexible and accessible. The avalanche appears some key boxes: fast transactions, low taxes and works with the Ethereum virtual machine. The latter part is important because it means that the FIFA NFT market will now be compatible with traditional wallets such as Metamask.
It also makes it easier for developers to build future characteristics. So, whether Fifa is thinking of adding new collectible types, gamified elements or interactive prizes for fans, Avalanche gives them more space to experiment without breaking the experience.

What does this mean for fans?
If you already have a FIFA collection NFT, you will have to prepare for a move. The plan is to migrate everything from the avalanche algorane. This also means some apps for the wallet, such as Pera and Defly, which are built specifically for Algorand, they no longer work.
Going forward, you will use wallets that connect via WalletConnect, which includes Metamask and other compatible apps with EVM. Fifa said it will release step-by-step instructions when the moment arrives, so users will not be left to guess. But you may want to familiarize yourself with Metamask now if you are not already.
Larger image: a restoration for FIFA web3 plans?
It is difficult not to read it as a soft restart for the entire NFT strategy of FIFA. The first wave of digital collectible objects in 2022 went and went without long -term momentum. Now, changing chains and hinting at “new corporate cases”, Fifa seems ready to try again, perhaps with more than simple digital commercial cards.
There has been no confirmation on what is the next, but the installation of Avalanche suggests that FIFA is looking beyond the simple NFT. The move opens the door to more interactive experiences, a deeper commitment than fans and perhaps also multiplatform collaborations with other apps in the avalanche ecosystem.

What happened to Algorand?
Algorand, once branded as a FIFA official blockchain partner, is out. The partnership is not receiving a dramatic break post, but it is clearly done. Algorand has spent a rocky year with layoffs and changes in the leadership and this news will not help. However, the chain remains active in other sectors such as Defi and tokenisation of the resources of the real world.
Looking to the future
This switch is more than a Backand update. He is shining his digital strategy and chooses a more familiar platform for cryptographic users and more versatile for developers. If the fans actually show it time, and stick around, It is the biggest question.
But if FIFA is right, this avalanche partnership could finally transform FIFA into something more than another NFT market.
