On Monday, Deputy Prosecutor General (DAG) Blanche published a reminder entitled “Ending Regulation for judicial proceedings” in which he declared that the United States Department of Justice will stop his repression on Bitcoin and Crypt mixers.
Here is the exact language he used in the memo:
“… The Department of Justice will stop participating in the regulation for judicial proceedings in this space. In particular, the Department will no longer take taking a virtual currency exchanges, mixing and accumulation of services and offline wallets for the documents of their end users or unaware violations of the regulations …”
The following day, the Public Prosecutor of New York (NYAG) James wrote a letter in which he invited the leaders of the congress to create regulation of federal cryptocurrencies, in part to prevent the use of cryptocurrency mixers for illicit purposes.
Here’s what they had to say and her co -authors on cryptocurrency mixers:
“Effective legislation must require that cryptocurrency platforms are expressly respected anti -money laundering laws, they know the customer regulations (” Kyca “) and computer security protocols to prevent the use of cryptocurrency to finance terrorism, must not be converted, directly or crime. A US dollars.”
While Dag Blanche gave the doubt to doubt about Bitcoin and Crypto Mixer users, NY AG James has insinuated that all users of these mixers are criminals, since it refers to technology as “mixer for money recycling”.
This language is profoundly worrying to listen to the general prosecutor of a state – much less any lawyer – as assumed to blame.
NY AG James has used this type of rhetoric around Bitcoin and Crypto since she hired the general role of the prosecutor in 2018, and it is unfair because 1.) has never recognized that human rights and pro-democracy activists use mixers to preserve both their privacy and the privacy of their donors and 2.) Us citizens have a right to financial privacy.
So, as the topic Bitcoin’s privacy becomes more important in the political sphere, be sure to do your part to amplify the type of the type that Dag Blanche is using while pushing back on dangerous and unfair rhetoric by NY AG James.
It is up to us to make our voice heard on this theme and let our elected officials know that it counts for us, especially when the cases of Samourai and Tornado money take place (more on both cases in the following discussion).
The struggle for our right to transfer value to the Internet privately is in progress. Please don’t stay on the sidelines.
