Polygon was launched the second season of its Community Grants Program (CGP).. With 35 million POL earmarked for grants, the program promises to empower innovative projects on many themes, including artificial intelligence (AI), decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN), and even the ubiquitous memecoin phenomenon. This latest iteration of the CGP is designed to ensure that funding reaches developers exactly when they need it, driving meaningful growth for the Polygon ecosystem and beyond.
Decentralized Grants with a Focused Vision

Season 1 of the CGP demonstrated the potential of targeted support, attracting more than 1,000 applications and distributing 18 million POLs to more than 120 projects. Season 2 will build on this foundation with a more decentralized and thematic approach to allocation.
Key to this initiative is the involvement of Independent Grant Allocators (GAs), such as a16z, Crossmint, IoTeX, Thrive, and Gitcoin. These entities are tasked with identifying high-potential projects and allocating millions to POL to advance them.

Thematic tracks for this season focus on three areas:
- AI Agents, Applications, and Infrastructure: The rise of AI and its integration with Web3 has opened up new avenues for innovation. Projects exploring intelligent agents, decentralized AI models, or infrastructure tailored to AI-driven applications are strongly encouraged to apply.
- DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks): This emerging category focuses on bridging the physical and digital realms. DePIN projects use blockchain to reimagine physical infrastructure—from smart energy grids to decentralized logistics networks.
- Memecoins: Although often dismissed as speculative, memecoins have proven their ability to drive massive user engagement and create vibrant online communities. Recognizing their cultural and economic impact, Polygon allocates funding to innovative projects in this space.
Through a decentralized grant process, Polygon aims to leverage the expertise of these allocators to identify and nurture the next wave of transformative projects.
The Expansive Direct Track
Direct Track remains the cornerstone of the CGP, with up to 20 million POLs available for projects that violate standard categories. This track supports initiatives ranging from cross-chain consumer applications to experimental real-world asset (RWA) integrations and groundbreaking games.
Unlike the thematic tracks, the Direct Track is open to all builders—whether they’re Polygon veterans or developers migrating from other blockchain ecosystems. The Community Treasury Board oversees this track, ensuring a rigorous review process to identify and fund high-quality projects capable of pushing the boundaries of what is possible with Web3.
Expanding the Builder Ecosystem
Polygon’s focus on fostering an inclusive and thriving developer ecosystem goes beyond financial support. Successful grant recipients gain access to the Polygon Founder Community, a network of resources designed to accelerate project development and scaling. Key benefits include:
- Real-Time Support: Dedicated Telegram and Discord channels connect founders with peers and experts for immediate problem resolution.
- Accelerating Growth: Programs and resources tailored to boost distribution, marketing, and user acquisition.
- Discounts on Tools and Infrastructure: Access to critical infrastructure at reduced cost, easing the financial burden on early-stage projects.
- Hands-On Testing and Feedback: Experimental programs aimed at providing first-time user experiences and actionable insights.
This holistic approach ensures that developers not only receive funding but also get the support necessary to realize their visions.
Why Polygon’s CGP Matters Today
The launch of Season 2 comes at a critical moment for the blockchain industry. The narrative surrounding Web3 has changed, with increasing attention to real-world applications and sustainable growth. Polygon’s CGP adapts to this evolution by prioritizing long-term over short-term trends. This strategic focus reflects the platform’s commitment to fostering innovation that delivers long-term value to the ecosystem.
Additionally, Polygon’s choice to embrace decentralization in its grantmaking process is indicative of a broader industry trend. By empowering Independent Grant Allocators, Polygon leverages the specialized knowledge of industry leaders to identify projects with real potential. This collaborative model not only democratizes funding but also strengthens the overall stability of the ecosystem.
Polygon’s Growing Influence
Polygon has solidified its position as a leading Layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum, boasting an extensive portfolio of partnerships and integrations. The platform’s low transaction costs and high throughput have attracted projects ranging from DeFi protocols to NFT marketplaces and gaming platforms. Its commitment to decentralization, evidenced by initiatives like CGP, reinforces its role as a catalyst for innovation in the blockchain space.
Notably, Polygon’s emphasis on AI and DePIN aligns with broader industry trends. AI-driven solutions are increasingly becoming a focal point for investment, with the potential to redefine industries from healthcare to finance. Similarly, DePIN represents a frontier for blockchain applications, offering a path to reimagine infrastructure systems in a decentralized manner.
How to Apply and Key Dates
Applications for Polygon CGP Season 2 are open until February 14, 2025. Builders interested in the thematic tracks or the broad Direct Track can submit their proposals via the grants homepage. The application review process is ongoing, ensuring timely feedback and support for good projects.
For those seeking additional insight, Community Treasury will host a dedicated X Space session on January 16, 2025, at 9 AM EST. This event will provide an in-depth overview of the grants program and answer questions from prospective applicants.
A Call to Innovators
Polygon’s Community Grants Program is a rallying cry for innovators and builders to join a thriving ecosystem. By combining financial support with a robust network of resources, CGP empowers developers to turn their ideas into reality.
